How much is it worth now?
November 26th, 2008

Have you been around someone who’s said “The price of things today…i remember when they were only worth…”? I have, and i’ve decided to see whether they were telling porkie pies, so I did a bit of research on the topic. More…

Free SMS alerts for eBay auctions
October 25th, 2008

Bidding on eBay auctions at the last minute seems like the best way to get a good bargain. However, I’ve been missing the end of auctions because they e-mail reminder arrives far too early. By the time the auction actually ends i’ve moved on to something else. Ideally then, i would get a text message a couple of minutes before the auction end, so I can nip online and snap up a bargain. eBay offer the service to send you a text message alert, but each of them costs money, so i’ve set about how I can do this for free. This project is the first part of a larger attempt to make a graphical application builder for web designers. As we’ve seen with the rise of application frameworks like Ruby on Rails, it is possible to remove a lot of repetition in the average web designers daily routine more…

Internet Jukebox
May 28th, 2008

As a continuation of the Musicbox project, this one links to a last.fm account and manages music based on trends. The main purpose of the application was to allow me to access my music collection and playlists from a web browser, much in the same way that Jinzora works. On top of this, playback is logged using audioscrobbler, this allows the application to find new music and events that are based on the music already in the collection. more…

WiFi music player
March 29th, 2008

I have had this project on the back burner for a quite a while. A while back I had acquired a Netgear media router and discovered that it was possible to install your own software on it. I like having music all round the house, so it seemed like a good plan to convert the router into a portable music player. more…

Tetronimo tennis
October 13th, 2007

Tetris (or tetronimo tennis) is one of the most popular video games ever and another classic programming exercise. As a later project, I am planning to make small devices which run a version of tetris, to give away as presents. Tetris seemed like a good choice more…

Musicbox

For a while I’ve been looking at making online agents. Little programs that can run on the internet scouring for items that their owner may be interested in. One thing I search a lot for on the internet is music. So much so, in fact, that it seems like a perfect use for one of these programs. more…

RuggerCards
September 9th, 2007

Top trumps is a real flashback to the school playground for me. It’s a card game, where each card contains a list of statistics and the game is played by comparing cards. There were a huge number of sets when I was a child and there are still many being released today. The object of this particular project more…
